Lesotho get famous win over Burundi
Tiny Lesotho have secured a famous victory after a 1-0 win over Burundi in their World Cup first round, first leg qualifier in Bissau on Friday.
In a game of few chances, Lesotho finally took their opportunity with 10 minutes remaining as Lehlomela Ramabele scored and they will now be much the happier side going into Tuesday’s second leg in Bujumbura.
Lesotho will know that if they can score an away goal it would leave their hosts needing to score three times, something that looked unlikely on Friday night’s showing.
But they can also now play for a draw and it will be a fascinating second leg in four days’ time that could see the country make a rare appearance in the group stages of qualifying.
The winner of this time will advance into Group D with Ghana, Sudan and Zambia.
